The life of a pizza delivery man

It is second nature to pick up the phone, order a pizza, wait thirty minutes then have a knock at your door and enjoy a hot dinner. This is the story of how the pizza gets to your door, and it is one that shouldn't be over looked. Brandon Henderson has been delivering pizzas for over three years and knows what it takes to get the job done as quick and efficient as possible. Here is a look into the life of Brandon Henderson and what it takes to be a delivery man.

Tips and trick on how to get around Brookings

-When you work as a delivery man for ever three years you start to learn a few things.

Why I did this story
This idea has been floating around in my head for quite some time now. I have always been a fan of the television series Cops and I wanted to do my own spin off of that. So what is better then following around a cop, well a pizza delivery guy. After going out on my first delivery and running a stop sign and learning how difficult it can be I knew this story was going to be good. It took me out of my comfort zone (filming at night) and it really gave me a chance to get creative with some shots. I love using the tripod and with this shoot I hardly even touched it. Knowing how to move the story along without saying anything was a new task I had to conquer. Hope you enjoyed!

SDSU Voting

Much to often we hear people saying, “My vote doesn’t count.” Well for Jennifer Chase she wants to veto this idea. Chase and her friends have been camping out at the South Dakota State University Union for the last month trying to get new students registered to vote, informing them on the topic, and even where to vote. Setting up a table at the Union takes a special kind of person. Chase says “you have to be outgoing and get into peoples faces just to let them know where they can vote at.” You may not think that your vote will count but don’t let Jennifer Chase hear that.

How Jennifer is spreading the word to vote.

Why I did this project.
Being that voting only comes around once every couple years I knew I had to jump at the opportunity to get out there and do a story about it. My real challenge was doing a story that wasn't just an everyday normal voting story. So after walking through the Union on campus you can't help but be bombarded by students who are out trying to get you to do something. When I walked passed Jennifer and her friends I knew I had a story.

Scariest Place in Brookings

Making a haunted house is not an easy task. Preparation starts weeks in advance. John Seward of Downtown Brookings knows this and has started recruiting hellions so that his “Insane Circus” will keep you up late at night.

So where does Seward go to when he needs the scariest ideas? Middle-schoolers of course. With enough ideas to make up ten haunted houses these kids will be scaring people three times their age.

A little help from South Dakota State fraternity S-A-E, and some high school kids to do some of the heavy work; this is a recipe for terror.

Downtown Brookings is a non-profit organization so volunteer help is vital for making this nightmare become a reality. All of the proceeds that the haunted circus will make will go back into Downtown Brookings in the hope to promote more activities for all ages.

About this Project
This project turned out to be one of my better stories. My interview could not have gone better, he was animated and really want to tell me everything, which makes my job a lot easier. I thought my script went along with the story, and I got to have a little fun writing it.

Children's Museum Up and Running

Brookings Children's Museum

The Children’s Museum in Brookings is the first and only of its kind in South Dakota. The Larson Foundation of Brookings sponsored the museum. CEO and President Dale Larson and his daughter Carmelle had the inspiration behind the museum.

Nearly four years later and countless hours of construction the Larson family finally opened the doors to the public and jump-started learning for children all around the area.

What use to be the elementary school, has now been transferred into the museum. The large building has been a blessing, much of the construction materials used were recycled from the school.

With over 20 exhibits for children 18 months and older to learn it is a fun family experience that everyone can walk away with something special.

For more information about the museum please check out their website.

Why I did this Story
After the first week, I'm glad to be back in the grove of things. This was a great first story to jump back into. Over all I was happy with it. Clearly a few things needed to be changed. I was happy with how the filming went and Ben did a great job capturing everything. All-in-all I had a great time going to the Children's Museum and getting to see all of the exhibits. Be on the look out for my next big story.
